Equipment
Single rooms are equipped with:
kitchen (gas stove, refrigerator, electric kettle), cupboard, dining table, wardrobe, bookshelf, study desk, chair, bed (bedding not provided), air conditioner.
Shared facilities include: showers, toilets, and vacuum cleaners. Building has coin-operated laundry machines.
Married/family rooms are equipped with:
kitchen (gas stove, refrigerator, water heater), cupboard, dining table, wardrobe, bookshelf, study desk, chair, bed (bedding not provided), gas heater, air conditioner, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, dryer, in-unit bathroom
- Internet access is available at the administration office (application fee: 3,300 yen, monthly fee: 2,970 yen, Wi-Fi router rental: 440 yen per month).
- Parking lot is available (2800 yen / month). You need to perform a procedure to use the lot.
University House Katahira (for international researchers)

- Foreign researchers who have been invited to Tohoku University to participate in collaborative research, and will be employed as researchers for a predetermined period of time
- Other foreign researchers deemed eligible by the university
※Those eligible for Tohoku University staff housing cannot apply.

- Other fees, such as utilities, bedding rental, room cleaning before moving out etc. must be paid by the resident.
- There will be a cleaning fee of 30,000 yen (stays of 3 months or longer) for deposit or an amount equal to the actual cleaning costs (stays shorter than 3 months).
- Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.
- All rooms use an IC card auto-lock system.
- Tableware, cooking pots etc. are not provided.
- There is no parking for residents. There is a bicycle stand, but it cannot accommodate motorized vehicles.
- Internet access is available at the administration office (application fee: 3,300 yen, monthly fee: 2,750 yen, Wi-Fi router rental: 440 yen per month).
- Applications should be submitted 6 months to 1 month prior to the planned moving date through the staff of the applicant’s department.
Notification of Outcome
Applicants will be informed via their departments two weeks prior their planned moving date. Those who are accepted will be issued a Residence Permit.
