Welcome to the Tohoku University International Support Center (ISC)!

Established in April 2022, our center provides comprehensive support to international students, international researchers, and faculty members of Tohoku University.

From providing support with practical matters such as travel arrangements and finding accommodation, to more complex bureaucratic procedures, our goal is to provide the resources and assistance needed to ensure that our international community in Tohoku University has a worry-free and enjoyable experience in Sendai and at the university.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has requested that we remind all our TU members about the prohibition of bringing meat, fruits, and vegetables products etc. into Japan.

To ensure compliance with Japan's regulations and avoid penalties, please keep in mind the following points :

・Bringing meat products, fruits, vegetables, etc. into Japan from overseas is strictly prohibited by law.

・Any illegal importation of these items into Japan is subject to heavy penalties, including imprisonment for up to 3 years or a fine of up to 3 million yen.

・Please remind your family members and acquaintances who are visiting Japan not to bring these items into the country or send them to Japan.

Starting December 2, 2024, new National Health Ins

Starting December 2, 2024, new National Health Insurance cards will no longer be issued. Instead, health insurance card will be integrated into the My Number Card. However, your current National Health Insurance card remains valid until its expiration date in 2025.

Individuals without a My Number Card by December 2nd, including new mid-long term foreign residents, will receive an "Eligibility Information Notification" to ensure access to insured medical treatment.

TU employees enrolled in MEXT MAA can still use their current MEXT MAA insurance card until December 1, 2025 unless there are changes in their MAA membership status. Additionally, employees holding a My Number card will receive a “Notice of Credentials” slip, while those without a My Number Insurance card will receive a “Eligibility Verification” card.

To ensure a smooth transition, register your My Number Card for health insurance use today!

[Happening Tomorrow!] Safety Confirmation System Drill

Attention Tohoku University community!
The university will be holding a safety drill for our Safety Confirmation System on October 16,2024. This drill is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of our students and instructors in the event of a major disaster.

During this drill, the university will be testing the functionality of the Safety Confirmation System by sending out safety confirmation and emergency notifications to the email addresses registered in the Student Affairs Information System or Integrated Electronic Authentication System.

During the drill, please be sure to check your e-mail, and follow the instruction in the e-mail to "confirm" your safety.

The Japanese Language Education Laboratory at Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Arts and Letters is pleased to offer evening Japanese language classes at the Aobayama Campus.

These classes, part of the teaching practicum for students in the Japanese Language Education program, will run from
October 17 to December 24.

Tohoku University’s international students, foreign researchers, and their families are very much welcome to join these classes.

We are pleased to announce that the Miyagi International Association (MIA) will be holding a Japanese language course starting October 2024.

MIA offers evening courses, which can be attended by those who only have free time in the evening, such as international students and foreign researchers.

Meanwhile, the regular daytime course is conducted four times a week and is taught by a qualified teacher with a solid curriculum. We highly recommend this course for new international students and families of foreign researchers.
