ISC Call Center
About the Call Center
The Call Center provides consultation services related to daily life in Japan.
You can ask about topics such as: ward office bureaucratic procedures, finding medical institutions with English-speaking staff, using the 3-way telephone interpretation service
Matters outside the Call Center’s scope
The Call Center cannot answer questions related to the university, such as course registration, scholarships, student life, admissions, researcher acceptance, employment, or research activities.
Information required when calling
Before making a call, please prepare the following information:
- Your name
- Your acceptance status (student, researcher, etc.)
- Your host department
- Your employee/student ID number (if applicable)
- Your host professor’s name
Important notes
- This is an internet-based call and will be on loudspeaker.
For privacy and better audio quality, we recommend using headphones with a microphone. - Please “allow” use of the microphone. You will not be able to make a call unless you allow it. If you selected “Do not allow” at the start, close the browser and access it again.
- Please close other audio apps, such as music and calling apps before making a call.
- We recommend using “Do not disturb” mode to avoid receiving incoming calls during a call.
- (For iPhone users) Please note that if you switch the screens during interpretation, the connection may be lost.
- If you are not connected via Wi-Fi (when using a computer, smartphone, or tablet), data charges may apply.

*For languages other than English and Japanese, the call center can provide interpretation involving speakers of languages other than English.
Available hours: 8:30–18:00 (Japan time) (including weekends and holidays)

International Student Help Desk
About the Help Desk
The International Student Help Desk is a support corner that aims to answer questions from all international students related to academics, campus life, daily life, translation support, etc. Staff at the Help Desk are Tohoku University students themselves.
Here are some common questions they can help you with:
● How can I connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi?
● What does this letter that I got in the mail mean? (Pension, health insurance, bank account, etc.)
● Where can I find information about part-time jobs, scholarships, and housing?
● How can I apply for a credit card?
Staff at the Help Desk are all fellow Tohoku University students. All of the staff can speak Japanese and English, and also their native languages such as Chinese, Indonesian, and Korean.

Inbound Emergency Response Support Service
If international members of Tohoku University have difficulty in responding to an accident or other emergency during their stay in Japan due to language barriers or cultural differences, they can consult with the “Japan IR&C Support Center” on how to respond.
Available languages: English, Chinese, and Japanese.
