We warmly welcome all international researchers and international students to Tohoku University!
To help you settle into life in Sendai and make the most of your academic experience, the International Support Center is organizing a Post-Arrival Orientation for international researchers.
While the session is primarily aimed at international researchers, international students and family members are also welcome to join. Additionally, we also greatly welcome persons in charge from research labs and host departments to join as well.
At the Orientation, ISC staff members will share information about Tohoku University and support services offered at the ISC. In addition, both staff members from the ISC and Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) from Sendai City will share useful information and practical tips on living in Sendai.
Additional informational materials on living in Sendai provided by the Sendai Tourism, Convention and International Association (SenTIA) will also be available at the venue.

- Living in Sendai as an International Resident – Key information on daily life and available support
- Helpful Resources – Guidance on bureaucratic procedures and local services
- Japanese Language Resources – Information on local Japanese language classes and other Japanese language resources geared towards international residents
- Interpretation and Translation Resources – Information on various local interpretation and translation services
- Disaster Preparedness – Important safety measures and what to do in case of a natural disaster
- Tourist Information – An explanation of Sendai’s famous landmarks, tourist spots, and more!
- Q&A Session – A chance to ask questions and get advice on settling in

The Orientation will be held both in-person and online. For those participating online, the link will be shared directly with registered participants.
While online participation is available, the ISC highly recommends attending the session in-person, especially for those interested in the chance to connect with fellow participants.
