Bureaucratic Procedures

Long-term residents of Sendai are required to register themselves at the ward office within 14 days of arrival in Sendai. As most of the procedure will be done in Japanese, we offer assistance to international students and researchers to complete the registration process at the ward office.

Japanese Language Program

We offer Japanese language program to Tohoku University members with valid Tohoku University ID. The program also includes university orientation program which is updated twice a year in spring and autumn.

Banking Facility

We provide assistance in opening a bank account to international students and researchers. As the process of opening a bank account will likely involve filling up Japanese application forms and communication with bank personnel in Japanese, we can accompany you to ease the registration process.

For Accompanying Family Members

Those who had moved to Sendai with family members may need to enroll their children to local schools. As most school administration in Sendai uses Japanese in their correspondence, we can assist you with school admission process as well.

SIM Card & Internet Contract

Having a Japanese number could be a necessity if you stay in Sendai long-term. Getting a SIM Card can be tricky if you are not familiar with the contract registration process. We can support you in getting a SIM card, choosing a suitable mobile plan and also getting Wi-Fi for your home.

Covid19 Vaccination Coupon

To receive Covid19 vaccine in Sendai, you will you need the vaccination ticket(s) sent by the City of Sendai. The vaccination ticket(s) are sent out to residents who are eligible to receive the vaccine. We offer support in getting the issuance of vaccination ticket for Covid19 vaccination.

Tenancy and Utility Supply Connection

As tenancy process in Japan could be quite complex, we can assist you with the tenancy procedure as well as in applying for the connection of utility (gas, water and electricity) supply prior to your move in date. As different move-in support will be provided for those moving into UH and IH, this group need not apply for this support. A joint guarantor is required to sign a contract for a property, but we will offer introductions to properties where a guarantor company can be used in place of a joint guarantor.
